Local action for Roma safety: 2nd Meeting of the Ukrainian Alliance of Cities and Regions for Roma Inclusion
The Ukrainian Alliance of Cities and Regions for Roma Inclusion, the European Alliance’s local network of mayors in Ukraine, will meet on 26 February 2019 in Lviv for its second official meeting. The Ukrainian Alliance will, among others, address the violent attacks against Roma that happened in the past year.
In 2018, a series of attacks against Roma, both verbally and physically, shocked the country. Two young Roma lost their lives when their settlements were attacked by strangers. The members of the Ukrainian Alliance will discuss how local and regional authorities can help prevent such attacks and create a safer future for Roma citizens in Ukraine.
The Ukrainian Alliance was founded in November 2017 by the Regional State Administrations of Transcarpathia, Zaporizhia, Odessa and Kharkiv, the District State Administrations of Pereyaslav-Khmelnytsky and Darnytskyi and the Cities of Kropyvnytskyi, Uzhgorod and Lviv. It serves as a local network of mayors and regional governors to exchange about best practice strategies in the field of Roma inclusion.
