The term “Roma and Travellers” is used at the Council of Europe to encompass the wide diversity of the groups covered by the work of the Council of Europe in this field including Roma, Sinti/Manush, Calé, Kaale, Romanichals, Boyash/Rudari, Balkan Egyptians (Egyptians and Ashkali), Eastern groups (Dom, Lom and Abdal), groups such as Travellers, Yenish, and the populations designated under the administrative term “Gens du voyage”, as well as persons who identify themselves as Gypsies.

“We must not forget the Roma Holocaust and we have to transmit to the new generations its memory: About hundreds of thousands innocents victims - a concrete aim to counter. Today  racism, intolerance and vindictive impulses make the situation in Europe more serious”, stated Piero Fassino, President of the Socialist group of the Congress on European Roma Holocaust Memorial Day (2 August).

“For this reason it is important that Mayors of all European cities subscribe the Declaration against Anti-Gypsyism and apply contrast polices to each type of discrimination against Roma communities” said Fassino.
