Alliance participants invited to high-level conference taking stock of Joint European Commission/Council of Europe ROMACT Programme, Brussels, 2-3 October 2014
The cities and regions participating in the Alliance have all been invited to participate in a high-level conference, to be organised by the European Commission with the support of the Council of Europe, on 2 and 3 October 2014 in Brussels.
This conference will take stock of progress and lessons learnt from the first year of implementation of the ROMACT programme that aims to enhance political will and administrative capacity for Roma inclusion at local and regional level. This programme is a joint initiative of the European Commission and the Council of Europe implemented since October 2013 with the support of the Alliance.
The president of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities, Herwig VAN STAA, will address the participants and present the views of European local and regional authorities engaged in promoting Roma inclusion on the ground. Other high level speakers including EU Commissioners and Members of EU Parliament, as well as mayors of several ROMACT pilot municipalities will also take the floor to share their experience and views.
This conference “Roma inclusion on the ground – the ROMACT approach” will provide a platform for mayors and representatives from Roma communities to exchange about concrete successes and challenges in integrating marginalised Roma and learn from each other.
More than 400 participants from over 100 countries representing public authorities at the EU, national and local level, international institutions and other stakeholders, are expected to attend.
